Effective date: August 29, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of GPAi (“the app”), an academic assistant built for NC State University students by the App Development Club at NC State. By using GPAi, you agree to these Terms.

1. Description of Service

GPAi provides two core features:

• GPA Calculator / Forecaster — parse an unofficial PDF transcript to calculate GPA and forecast future GPA.
• AI Academic Advisor — a chatbot that answers academic questions using your transcript as context.

2. Eligibility

GPAi is available only to users with a valid @ncsu.edu Google account. By using the app, you represent that you are an NC State University student or affiliate with a current university email.

3. User-Generated Content

You may submit the following types of content through the app:

• Chat messages sent to the AI advisor
• Content reports flagging AI responses as inaccurate, offensive, or misleading

3.1 Prohibited Content

You agree not to submit content that:

• Promotes hate speech, discrimination, or violence against any individual or group
• Contains sexual or sexually suggestive content, especially involving minors
• Encourages self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders
• Provides instructions for illegal activities
• Generates misleading or deceptive information
• Produces harassment, bullying, or threatening content
• Contains profanity or extremely graphic descriptions of violence
• Infringes on the intellectual property rights of others
• Is spam or unsolicited commercial content

3.2 Prohibited Behaviors

You agree not to:

• Attempt to jailbreak, manipulate, or circumvent the AI advisor’s safety guidelines
• Submit content designed to extract system prompts, training data, or internal configuration
• Abuse the content reporting system by submitting false or misleading reports
• Use the app for any purpose other than its intended academic use
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity

4. AI-Generated Content

The AI advisor generates responses based on your transcript and chat messages. You acknowledge that:

• AI-generated responses may contain errors and should not be treated as official academic advice
• You are responsible for verifying any academic information with your advisor or the university
• The AI may occasionally produce inaccurate or incomplete responses
• You can flag problematic responses using the in-app report feature

5. Intellectual Property

5.1 Your Content

You retain ownership of any content you submit through the app. By submitting content, you grant GPAi a limited license to use that content solely for the purpose of providing the service (e.g., processing your chat messages through the AI model).

5.2 Our Service

The app, its design, code, and documentation are licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0. The GPAi name, logo, and branding are property of the App Development Club at NC State.

6. Privacy

Your use of GPAi is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and handle your data. By using the app, you consent to the practices described in the Privacy Policy.

7. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from the Profile tab in the app, or by visiting gpai.appdevncsu.org/delete-account. Deleting your account permanently removes your server-side session and any content reports you have filed.

8. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to GPAi at any time, without notice, for conduct that we determine violates these Terms or is otherwise harmful to other users, the service, or third parties.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

GPAi is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the App Development Club at NC State and its members shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to loss of data, academic decisions made based on AI-generated content, or unauthorized access to your account.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and notify you through the app. Continued use of GPAi after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
